The Holy Father requests that we, as lay
members of Christ’s faithful people, "take an active, conscientious and
responsible part in the mission of the Church"1 and "keep
a watchful eye on our world, . . . [as to its] economic, social, political and
cultural affairs"2 because "the Laity, by their very
vocation, seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and ordering
them according to the plan of God."3 We are to accomplish this,
he says, by "imbuing culture and human activity with genuine moral values
. . . [to] better prepare the field of the world for the seed of the Word of
God."4

+ Live simply and justly in solidarity with the poor and marginalized
and be a good neighbor. Make no war on them, rather, be one with them
in spirit, truth and love.
+ Hear the truth when it is spoken to you. Discern the signs of the times
and speak truth -- to power, to the people, and to the Church.
+ Make injustice visible -- witness, remember, teach, proclaim,
tell. Light candles, do not curse the
darkness.
+ Protect the poor and powerless-- listen, learn, educate, organize, empower
participation and respect life from the moment of conception to the time of
natural death.
+ Work for reconciliation with truth, evangelism, catechesis, and orthopraxis.
+ Celebrate life, goodness, beauty, virtue, responsibility and joy.
+ Practice peace, non-violence, servant leadership, harmony, community,

"Anyone who is at a stage in
their recovery where it is helpful to have a disciplined focus on our own behaviors
- taking responsibility for our
part of the problem - can be helped by the Twelve Steps.
Isn't that everybody? -
Well, no. Almost everybody, but not everybody.
The Twelve Steps are designed to help us focus on our part, on our sins against
ourselves and others.
If you're at a place in your journey
where the main focus of your recovery is on the sins that have been committed
against you,
then you may not find the Steps to be particularly helpful right now.
A time will come in your recovery when
it's appropriate to focus on the part of the problem that you own (e.g. your
resentments).
When that time comes, the spiritual disciplines of the Twelve Steps may be
helpful to you."
