The Holy Father requests that we, as lay members of Christ’s faithful people, "take an active, conscientious and responsible part in the mission of the Church"1 and "keep a watchful eye on our world, . . . [as to its] economic, social, political and cultural affairs"2 because "the Laity, by their very vocation, seek the kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and ordering them according to the plan of God."3 We are to accomplish this, he says, by "imbuing culture and human activity with genuine moral values . . . [to] better prepare the field of the world for the seed of the Word of God."4

+ Live simply and justly in solidarity with the poor and marginalized and be a good neighbor.  Make no war on them, rather, be one with them in spirit, truth and love.

+ Hear the truth when it is spoken to you. Discern the signs of the times and speak truth -- to power, to the people, and to the Church.

+ Make injustice visible -- witness, remember, teach, proclaim, tell.  Light candles, do not curse the darkness.

+ Protect the poor and powerless-- listen, learn, educate, organize, empower participation and respect life from the moment of conception to the time of natural death.

+ Work for reconciliation with truth, evangelism, catechesis, and orthopraxis.

+ Celebrate life, goodness, beauty, virtue, responsibility and joy.

+ Practice peace, non-violence, servant leadership, harmony, community, voluntary cooperation and the proper stewardship of God's creation.  Pray without ceasing.

+ Ensure fair distribution, subsidiarity, economic opportunity, justice and food security for everyone everywhere.

A Great Book for Any Victim of Abuse
----------------------------------------------------
The Wounded Heart:
Hope for Adult Victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse

This is a powerful and extremely valuable resource,
not just for those who have had their dignity violated sexually,
but for anyone who has suffered any type of abuse.
This book helps one truly understand these wounds and how they impact their life, plus it goes well beyond the general issues and solutions discussed in other books on this subject.

A Book for Dealing with Sex/Lust Addiction
----------------------------------------------------
Healing the Wounds of Sexual Addiction
Pornography has crippled so many men's ability to have real relationships with women. Written by a former sex addict, this book offers practical help and hope for regaining and maintaining sexual integrity, self-control, and wholesome, biblical sexuality. Previously titled Faithful and True, this revision includes an all-new section that deals with sexual addiction in the church.

A Book for Dealing with Co-Dependence
----------------------------------------------------
From Bondage to Bonding:
Escaping Codependency, Embracing Biblical Love

Codependency is a self-focused way of life in which a person blind to his or her true self continually reacts to others being controlled by and seeking to control their behavior, attitudes, and/or opinions, resulting in spiritual sterility, loss of authenticity, and absence of true intimacy.
This book is a powerful resource for learning what healthy mutual interdependence is and how it can be achieved.

.
12-Step Books for Christians
----------------------------------------------------
The Twelve Steps for Christians
is a powerful resource for merging the practical wisdom of the Twelve Steps with the spiritual truths of the Bible.
This combination of recovery and spirituality offers Christians an effective way to work a traditional Twelve Step program in light of the Gospel.
The Twelve Steps: A Spiritual Journey
is the companion workbook which offers the same text, but in workbook format with questions.

"Anyone who is at a stage in their recovery where it is helpful to have a disciplined focus on our own behaviors
 - taking responsibility for our part of the problem - can be helped by the Twelve Steps.
Isn't that everybody?  -  Well, no. Almost everybody, but not everybody.
The Twelve Steps are designed to help us focus on our part, on our sins against ourselves and others.
If you're at a place in your journey where the main focus of your recovery is on the sins that have been committed against you,
then you may not find the Steps to be particularly helpful right now.
A time will come in your recovery when it's appropriate to focus on the part of the problem that you own (e.g. your resentments).
When that time comes, the spiritual disciplines of the Twelve Steps may be helpful to you."
